It's Off To Anaheim For Me

Acquire the Fire is tomorrow so we're headed out tonight to sleep on the floor of a church that I've not heard the name of. Then Sunday is my mom's annual slave labor-, uh, I mean cookie-baking, light-hanging, Christmas tree decorating party! I should really write a lot more so that turkey picture gets bumped further down the page, but I've got to go pack.

Hi! My name is Esther, and I'm an intern at Teen Mania's Honor Academy. How did you like the Anaheim event? Have you ever been before this year?

hi esther. this was my first atf experience, and i went as a leader, so i'm not sure how helpful my take will be to you, being that i'm not part of the targeted demographic. the event was definitely energetic and entertaining and i am greatful for the huge amount of work that went into it. it seemed to me though, to be a few things that Christ is not: flashy, temporary and consumer-driven. our never-a-dull-moment society has greatly impacted the criteria with which teenagers choose what they spend their time on. having worked with this age group for a while, i can appreciate the need for events like yours to compete with the excitement of the world, but i fear for participants with little or no spiritual foundation who are "on fire" for fire's sake, and have not been shown the character of Christ.

i haven't yet had a chance to follow up with my youth group, but would be happy to e-mail you with their reactions after i do.
